BISCO Hall Introduction
Grand Opening of the Korean Cultural Center’s BISCO Hall
On September 14, 2024, the Korean Cultural Center in Chicago officially opened the BISCO Hall, a multi-purpose cultural performance venue. This facility represents the largest project for the Korean community in Chicago, completed after five years of dedicated effort.
Multi-Purpose Cultural Space
BISCO Hall features a 400-seat performance auditorium and a 250-seat banquet hall, making it an ideal location for various cultural events and programs. This project began with a $1.5 million donation from the BISCO Foundation’s founders, Seobyeong In and Seomin Sook, and expanded to a total of $4.2 million with grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Overseas Korean Foundation.
A Hub for Korean Culture
BISCO Hall is designed to foster communication not only within the Korean community but also with diverse ethnic groups and the broader society. To enhance the quality of performances, an oversized LED screen has been installed at the front of the stage. Additionally, the venue features the newly renovated Busanjung, Kkotdam, and Hyupmun in the backyard. The outdoor area, named “Madang,” will host various programs such as traditional games, wedding ceremonies, and concerts, providing a warm and comfortable space for cultural exchange.
A New Beginning, A New Name
With the opening of BISCO Hall, the center transitions from the former name “Chicago Korean Cultural Center” to “Chicago Korean Cultural Foundation.” With a new logo, the foundation will focus on a wide range of programs to promote Korean culture (K-Culture) and strengthen its role as a hub for the Korean community.
We look forward to your support and the opportunity to experience diverse and enriching cultural performances at BISCO Hall!
