BISCO is a welcoming space where four buildings encircle a central courtyard, resembling protective mountains. It embodies the warmth of towering peaks, the strength and comforting presence of the Harubang statues that guard the cultural center, and the enduring curves of stones reminiscent of Korean landscapes. After years in Chicago, many of us who have visited Korea can recall the comforting embrace of Seoul’s surrounding mountains—a warmth that BISCO now brings to life.

Reflecting on a few years ago at a dedication ceremony for a power plant in Michigan, a remarkable achievement by a Korean company, it was not just the project’s success that stood out but also the inspiring words of the project leader. He spoke about three guiding principles: Patience, Perseverance, and Persistence. These principles have been integral throughout the journey of BISCO, guiding us in creating a space that future generations will be proud of—a place that feels like home.

Now, as BISCO transitions to the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago with a new name and logo, we all embark on this new chapter together. This center is envisioned as a place where everyone can experience the warm and generous spirit of Korea, engaging in diverse activities that enrich our lives. As an arts hub moving forward into the future, BISCO Hall aspires to be a space where all can find rest, inspiration, and a sense of belonging.

Thank you,
